Zurich’s No.1 hotel doesn’t disappoint. Drawing a mix of business powerbrokers and tourists with money to spare, the castle-like Dolder Grand offers recently renovated interiors that combine belle époque glamour and modern sensibilities (think historic hangings with bright color accents and of-the-moment accessories) plus magnificent views from its perch atop the Zurichberg. Although the resort may feel a little stiff at times, except in its acclaimed spa and when there’s a random gay event on, a night here is luxury defined. Lovers of ‘60s design should check into Suite 100: a James Bond fever dream. Extravagance doesn’t come cheap: regular rooms priced from 540 Swiss francs.
