Named after the leftist multicultural Kreuzberg neighborhood known for alternative uprisings before reunification, SO36 doesn't discriminate. The still-strong monthly event Gayhane and its HomoOriental Dancefloor earned international fame for giving gay Muslims a party to call their own (last Saturday of every month). With a continuing penchant for punk 40 years after its founders first squatted the abandoned building, these counterculture, radically liberal stomping grounds saw historic gigs ranging from Social Distortion to Desmond Dekker. Now, expect rotating nights of drunken roller derby, tranny karaoke, late-night artist flea markets, bingo, and endless slightly twisted offerings.
