L’Hôtel provided the provocation for these last words of Oscar Wilde. But the claim to fame is less dubious thanks to a luxe redesign by Jacques Garcia. Rooms are individually themed—“St. Petersburg” Russ-aristo, “Wilde” Edwardian decadence, flamboyant Italian “Barroco,” exotic Indo-Chinese “Pondichéry” - but are united by Garcia’s unapologetic “more is more” deployment of sumptuous antiques and textiles. The bar is intimate and classy, with live piano three nights a week, and the vaulted basement swimming pool recalls Roman baths. "Bijoux" and "Mignon" sized rooms (the smallest) are priced at €255–370, and apartments run over €700.
