Inn of the Turquoise Bear Top Pick!

OUT Review

History, homos, and heroes, oh my! This gay-owned bed and breakfast was once the home of activist Witter Bynner and his longtime lover, Robert Hunt, who hosted literary greats like Willa Cather, Aldous Huxley, and Christopher Isherwood, some of whose names adorn the 11 rooms. Accommodations range from few frills -- a double bed and desk in Cather's room -- to slightly larger but not luxe suites like the Shaman, which includes a small sitting area with an enormous fireplace and king-sized bed. And, yes, their breakfast is hot and made to order, including pancakes, biscuits and gravy, and eggs. Off-peak months, January and February, are most affordable (visitors can snag Robert Hunt's room for around 0), but even summer and holidays are reasonable for this roomy, convenient inn.
